EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women’s tennis team finished its first fall event with a clean sweep of four singles matches Sunday, as UO completed the three-day Duck Invitational Sunday at the UO Student Tennis Center.
After competing in both singles and doubles against Portland, Portland State and Washington State on Friday and Saturday, the Ducks faced off with the Pilots in four singles matches to complete the tournament. Candela Aparisi, Nina Geissler, Sophie Luescher and Karin Young each came away with straight-set victories.
Geissler, an LSU transfer, earned the first singles victories in her Oregon career while Aparisi, a freshman, earned her second singles win of the weekend. Geissler defeated Aleksandra Dimitrijevic, 6-2, 6-1, while Aparisi took down Rimona Rouf, 6-3, 6-4.
Luescher finished the weekend with a 3-0 singles record after taking down Alaia Rubio Perez, 6-3, 6-1. Luescher also went 3-0 in doubles, partnered with three different teammates. Karin Young also improved her singles record to 3-0 after she ousted Meagan Pearson, 6-2, 6-1.
As a team, Oregon registered a 10-2 singles record, going 4-0 against both Portland and Portland State, while going a combined 6-1 in doubles against the field.
Next up for the Ducks is the ITA Regionals, held in Stanford, Calif. Action starts Friday and the tournament runs through Tuesday, Oct. 17.
