Carlos Alcaraz’s long awaited return will take place this week in Buenos Aires at the Argentina Open. The 19-year-old World No.2 has not been in action since retiring with an abdominal injury in Paris in November – he later picked up a hamstring injury while training for the Australian Open which forced him to pull out of the Australian Open this year.

“Four months with no competition, with no matches, – just training and recovering my injuries. I need to get used to these conditions to play with the best players,” Alcaraz said. “It’s going to be really tough to win the tournament or to be close to winning. My hopes is to feel okay with my body and to play well.”

As the top seed in Argentina, Alcaraz faces the following path to the final (if seeds hold):

R1 – Bye
R2 – Fognini or Djere
QF – [6] Baez
SF – [4] Schwartzman or [5] F. Cerundolo
F – [2] Norrie or [3] Musetti

Alcaraz went 57-13 in 2022, winning five titles including the 2022 US Open, where he became the youngest champion at Flushing Meadows since Pete Sampras in 1990. The following week, Alcaraz became the youngest No.1 in ATP history.

He will turn 20 on May 5.
