Northwestern Drops Heartbreaker to No. 4 Kentucky in NCAA Tournament Second Round


EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern fell to No. 4 Kentucky 4-3 in a heartbreaker in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. 

Northwestern claimed the first doubles match, with Simen Bratholm/Steven Forman defeating Alafia Ayeni/Alexandre LeBlanc (Kentucky) 6-1 at #1. Kentucky rallied to win at #2 and #3 to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.

Northwestern responded early in singles action, claiming the first set on all six courts. Ivan Yatsuk was first to clinch his match at #2 Singles, defeating No. 18 Alafia Ayeni (Kentucky) to even the match at one apiece. 

At #5 Singles, Presley Thieneman claimed a win in straight sets, defeating No. 18 Alafia Ayeni (Kentucky) 6-2, 6-1.

Gleb Blekher defeated Charlelie Cosnet (Kentucky), securing a 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 win at #6 Singles to give Northwestern a 3-1 lead.

Kentucky claimed matches at #3, #1, and #4 singles to clinch the match.

Steven Forman will compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament in Orlando, Florida, beginning on May 22.
