COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 19 Wisconsin women’s tennis team (15-4) took down No. 49 Maryland (14-4) at College Park on Sunday to finish off its away schedule for the regular season. Both sides came together to dedicate the match to Morgan’s Message, a non-profit focused on confronting the stigma around mental health within the student-athlete community.
Taylor Cataldi and Charmaine Seah started the morning off strong in doubles, beating Mary Brumfield and Francesca Feodorov, 6-2, to give the Badgers the early advantage. No. 65 ranked Maria Sholokhova and Ava Markham sealed the doubles point for the Badgers after a strong 6-3 win over Marta Perez Mur and Minorka Miranda.
No. 44 Markham gave the team its second overall point after beating Perez Mur, 6-2, 6-4, in singles. Cataldi followed that up with a dominate 6-3, 6-0 performance against Maryland’s Hannah McColgan. Reigning Big Ten Player of the Week and No. 92 ranked Maria Sholokhova sealed the win for Wisconsin after beating Miranda 6-3, 6-3.
Wisconsin finally returns to the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Friday, April 14 at 5 p.m. (CT) against No. 34 Illinois for a Big Ten match. This is the first of four straight matches Wisconsin plays at home to finish the regular season.
