No. 17 Badgers head to Michigan for two Big Ten games


MADISON, Wis. – The No. 17 Wisconsin women’s tennis team continues its Big Ten play in Ann Arbor against No. 3 Michigan on Saturday, March 25 at 11 a.m. (CT). The team then travels to East Lansing to take on Michigan State at 11 a.m. the following day.
 
Here are five things to know:
 
1. KNOW THE OPPONENTS: Michigan is currently one of the top teams in the country, coming in at No. 3 in the most recent ITA Rankings. The Wolverines are 11-3 overall but are coming off a 4-1 loss against No. 19 Florida on March 22. The team also has four ranked singles players and two ranked doubles players.

Michigan State holds an overall record of 7-7 and is 0-3 in Big Ten play. The Spartans are on a three game lose streak, falling to No. 6 Michigan, No. 60 Iowa and No. 63 Nebraska.

2. LOOKING BACK: The Badgers are 20-31 all-time against Michigan. Last time out, on March 27, 2022, Wisconsin fell to the then-No. 26 ranked Wolverines in a tight match, 4-3.

Against the Spartans, Wisconsin holds a record of 45-13. The Badgers beat the No. 70 ranked Spartans 6-1 on March 25, 2022 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

3. RECAPPING THE WEEK: Wisconsin had three games last week against Rutgers, No. 9 Ohio State and No. 48 Penn State. The women were victorious against both Rutgers, winning 5-2, and Penn State, winning 4-2, but fell to top ranked Ohio State 7-0. The Badgers currently sit at 13-3 on the season heading into the matches in Michigan.
