SYRACUSE, N.Y — The top-ranked North Carolina women’s tennis team (22-0, 8-0 ACC), picked up its 22nd consecutive victory on Sunday afternoon after it defeated the No. 29 Syracuse Orange 6-1 in Syracuse.
Syracuse was not able to fill out a full lineup and defaulted on No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The Tar Heels needed just one doubles win to collect the doubles point and needed two singles victories to cement the win over the Orange.
In doubles play, No. 13 Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty won in straight sets (6-0) to clinch the doubles point for North Carolina. Despite already clinching the doubles point, the No. 4 ranked tandem of Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig won their doubles match 6-1.
The Tar Heels entered singles play with a 2-0 lead after securing the doubles point and No. 6 singles being defaulted.
No. 15 Reese Brantmeier set the pace in singles play, she won 6-1, 6-0 to give UNC’s its third point of the match. Fiona Crawley, the top-ranked singles player in the country, won 6-3, 6-1 to give North Carolina its fourth point and clinch the win over Syracuse.
Teammates Anika Yarlagadda and Reilly Tran each won two straight sets in their singles matches to give North Carolina its fifth and sixth point of the match.
