No. 1 seed USC men’s tennis cruised to victory in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 tennis championship Thursday afternoon, sweeping No. 9 seed Oregon 4-0.
The Trojans grabbed the first point of the match with a victory in the doubles. The teams split the first two doubles courts, with Ryan Colby and Stefan Dostanic scoring first with a 6-2 win over Ivailo Keremedchiev and Ray Lo on court two, before No. 52 Bradley Frye and Learner Tien were defeated 6-1 on center court. Peter Makk and Wojtek Marek battled back from an early deficit to claim the doubles point for USC with a 7-6 (4) victory over Luke Vandecasteele and Vlad Breazu on court three.
The Trojans continued their success in singles play, scoring three straight points. No. 100 Marek finished first with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Breazu on court four, followed by No. 32 Dostanic on court one, who defeated No. 109 Charlton 6-4, 6-2 to bring the Trojans within one. No. 116 Frye clinched the victory for USC with a 7-5, 6-2 victory on court five over Luke Vandecasteele.
When play paused, the Trojans led on two other courts. Makk led 7-6, 3-2 on court three, while Lodewijk Weststrate led 7-6, 3-2 on court six.
With their victory, the Trojans move on to the semi-finals of the tournament. The top seeded Trojans will take on No. 4 Stanford Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Libbey Park.
