Martina Navratilova has made a successful recovery from throat and breast cancer.
The tennis legend, an 18-time Grand Slam singles champion, was diagnosed in January and fell into a panic. After months of treatment she has been told she is “good to go” by her doctors.
“As far as they know, I’m cancer-free,” she said, adding that she has a bit of additional radiation treatment to finish.
This week, the nine-time Wimbledon champion returned to the commentator’s booth at the Miami Open, where she is working for Tennis Channel.
Such wonderful news from my dear friend, @Martina.
We are so happy for you! https://t.co/UBMoEKvZhi

She made her first appearance alongside Mark Petchey and talked about her experience.
“It puts you face-to-face with mortality, number one, because at the beginning I wasn’t sure if it was treatable, so that was hard,” she said on-air. “But once I got into the program, it was a little easier emotionally, but more difficult physically, between chemo and in proton therapy it beat me up, but I’m still standing. I made it up the stairs without using the elevator here, so it’s all good.”
