Nask Claims Singles Title, Spartans Win Seven at Roberta Alison Fall Classic


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Michigan State women’s tennis freshman Juliette Nask completed a dominant weekend of singles action at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, leading all Spartans with a trio of singles victories and the Beth Cleino Draw title. MSU wrapped up play at the tournament Sunday afternoon.
 
Nask started her run through the singles draw on Friday, dispatching with Troy’s Hagar Ramadan in a 7-6(6), 6-4 battle. In the semifinals of the Beth Cleino Draw, Nask notched a gritty three-set win over Mariya Shumeika of East Tennessee State, publishing a 7-5, 5-7, 1-0(4) win to reach the championship match. Against Big Ten-challenger Mila Mejic of Indiana, Nask completed her undefeated individual weekend with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph to bring home the title.
 
Elsewhere at the Alabama Tennis Stadium, junior Ayshe Can put together a solid 2-1 showing in the Keith Swindoll Draw. Can started the tournament off with a remarkable three-set, come-from-behind victory over Reka Zadori of Ole Miss, finishing the opening day of matches with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0(6) scorecard. In the ensuing match against Daniela Rivera of ETSU, Can split sets with the Buccanneer’s star and battled for a remarkable 17-15 victory in the third-set super-breaker. The Spartan junior finished Saturday’s match by a score of 6-2, 6-7(3), 1-0(15).
 
In the Nancy Pate singles flight, Spartan sophomore Charlotte Gisclon added two more victories for MSU, opening play on Friday with a powerful 6-2, 6-4, straight-set win over Enya Ratkic of UAB. In her Saturday semifinal against Caraline Scheufler of South Alabama, Gisclon came in clutch during the third-set super-tiebreaker. After splitting the first two sets, Gisclon ultimately triumphed by a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(8) margin.
 
UP NEXT

Michigan State women’s tennis returns to East Lansing next weekend, as the Spartans host the Green & White Dual Event at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. First serve is set for Friday, Nov. 4, with the doubles competition beginning at 9 a.m. Play continues at the tournament until Sunday, Nov. 6.
