CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team tallied its third straight victory Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Drexel Dragons, 4-0, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes move to 11-6 on the season, while the Dragons fall to 5-9.
Sophomore Martin Katz and graduate student Dan Martin set the tone early for the Hurricanes, winning Miami’s first doubles match of the day, 6-2, at second doubles.
Drexel responded with a 6-4 victory on court one to tie the doubles portion at one-all, but freshmen Jackson Armistead and Nacho Serra Sanchez clinched the point for the Hurricanes with a 7-5 victory over Daniel Dudockin and Matvey Radionov at third doubles.
With a 1-0 advantage heading into singles action, the Hurricanes kept the momentum rolling, beginning with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 victory on court five by Serra Sanchez.
Martin made the match 3-0 in favor of the Hurricanes with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Drexel’s Alan Jesudason.
Freshman Martin Vergara Del Puerto followed shortly after with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at fourth singles to clinch the match for Miami.
At the time of clinching, Katz, fifth-year senior Juan Martin Jalif and Armistead were all leading in their respective matches.
The Hurricanes are headed just up I-95 to host the Clemson Tigers at Hard Rock Stadium as part of the Miami Open event. First serve on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
