OXFORD, Miss. – The seventh-ranked Tennessee men’s tennis team looks to extend its winning streak to six, as it takes on No. 59 Ole Miss on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) at Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

LAST TIME OUT
The Vols (20-4, 9-1 SEC) pulled off a 4-3 comeback victory over No. 14 Mississippi State on April 4, fueled by Shunsuke Mitsui’s three-set battle to clinch. The 37th-ranked player in singles fought to win his first set in a 7-3 tiebreaker at 6-all on court two. His opponent, No. 42 Petar Jovanovic, took the second set in 7-5 fashion to force a third. The two battled and exchanged points in the final set before Mitsui cranked out two straight to win, 6-4. 
 
James Newton recorded his first career SEC win against the Bulldogs, routing Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 6 spot. Fourth-ranked Johannus Monday followed with a 7-6(5), 6-3 effort over No. 107 Nemanja Malesevic atop the lineup. Filip Pieczonka finished off Dusan Milanovic, 6-3, 7-6(6), on court four.
 
SCOUTING OLE MISS
The Rebels (9-12, 2-8 SEC) have lost their last six matches, most recently falling to Georgia, 4-0, on Friday. Nikola Slavic, ranked 53rd in singles, holds a 5-3 conference record atop the lineup and is 4-3 against ranked opponents in 2023-24. John Hallquist Lithen is 11-6 at the No. 2 spot, including a 6-3 mark in SEC action for Ole Miss.
 
The 53rd-ranked pair of Slavic and Lukas Engelhardt are 10-7 in dual match play and 1-7 in conference competition as the Rebels’ top doubles duo.

Shunsuke Mitsui defeated his eighth ranked opponent of the season with his win over Mississippi State’s 42nd-ranked Petar Jovanovic and holds a 2-0 record in three-set matches in 2024. The junior boasts an 8-2 record in conference play at the No. 2 position this season.
