Marathon Match Goes to Texas Tech

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men’s battled valiantly but fell to Texas Tech 4-2 after being unable to mount a comeback.
 
The Ducks found themselves in an early deficit after dropping the doubles point. Oregon’s No. 1 doubles pair, the No. 8 nationally ranked duo of Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele, won their match over Texas Tech’s No. 45 Azoidis and Collier, 6-3 but the Red Raiders got the better of the early portion.
 
After dropping the first singles contest, the Ducks rallied with two consecutive singles victories by Quinn Vandecasteele and Vlad Brezau to even the match at 2-2. Vandecasteele sealed the first singles win of the day for the Ducks in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Brezau finished with a 6-3, 7-5 victory after being down 3-4 in the second set. Texas Tech followed up with a victory on Court 6 to give the Red Raiders a 3-2 advantage.
 
Despite a valiant effort, Oregon was unable to complete its comeback effort with the final two singles contests going to a third set. Ray Lo fought until the end evening things up before eventually falling, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7 (7-2), leading to an eventual 4-2 decision for the Red Raiders. Action on Court 3 was left unfinished at 7-5, 3-6, 3-3.
