Luescher Earns All-Pac-12 Honors - University of Oregon Athletics

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon freshman Sophie Luescher received second-team All-Pac-12 recognition while Karin Young and Myah Petchey each earned honorable mention recognition from the conference Wednesday.

Luescher is just the third different Duck since 2007 to earn first or second team all-conference honors while her selection to the all-league team is the 39th in program history. She is also the ninth freshman in school history to earn a spot on an all-conference team and just the second since the conference did away with all-league teams for the two separate divisions in 1998.

The Seengen, Switzerland native went 20-9 in singles play while going 13-7 in the dual season at the No. 1 spot. She is one of six freshmen in program history to win at least 20 singles matches in a season while the Ducks are 11-2 in dual matches when Luescher wins her singles match.

Luescher has a pair of wins over ITA ranked opponents, topping No. 43 Margaux Maquet of Charlotte in January and No. 124 Linda Huang of Utah in April. The Ducks’ No. 1 player clinched a win over Arizona State in March with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win over Giulia Morlet, giving UO a 4-3 win over the No. 25 Sun Devils. Luescher has played all but two of her doubles matches at the No. 1 spot and is 8-6 on the dual season in pairs play.

Young joined the team in January and has gone 17-2 in singles, highlighted by a 15-match winning streak from February through April. The freshman went on a 15-match singles winning streak from February through April, good for the longest stretch by a Duck since at least 2000. She lost just two sets during her winning streak and has dropped only eight singles sets all season.

Petchey spent the entire dual season at the No. 2 spot and is 15-11 on the year in singles play. She went up against five ranked opponents during conference play while going 8-9 overall in dual matches, with UO going 8-0 when she won her singles match. Petchey clinched a big win over Wisconsin on Feb. 5, winning 5-6, 6-4, 6-1 to finish off a key 4-3 nonconference victory.
