Lopez set for ITA Super Regionals


WEST POINT, N.Y. — Jackeline Lopez of the Rutgers women’s tennis team is set to compete at ITA Super Regionals at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. from Oct. 20-23. 

Thirty-two student-athletes from schools in the ITA Northeast region, both Northern and Southern sections, will be competing at the four-day event. To qualify themselves for Super Regionals, players either automatically earned a spot based on their 2022-23 season results, or reached the quarterfinal round of their respective regional bracket.

 

Singles competitions will begin Friday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. with the round of 32, followed by the round of 16.

 

Singles quarterfinals are set for Saturday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. The semifinals and finals will take place on Sunday, Oct. 22, and Monday, Oct. 23.

 

Lopez automatically qualified for Super Regionals singles play based on her regional ranking of 16, and will take on Victoria Zhao of Cornell in her round of 32 matchup.

 

Last Time Out

 

Rutgers competed at the Princeton Invitational from Oct. 13-15, collecting 22 total wins, 14 singles and eight doubles.

 

In doubles play, RU had five different sets of pairs earn wins. The duos included Amira Badawi and Mai Nguyen, Yana Gurevich and Daira Cardenas, Badawi and Minchae Kim, Lopez and Naomi Karki, and Cardenas and Ariva Valitova.

 

In singles competitions, eight Scarlet Knights recorded at least one victory across the three-day event.

 

Looking Ahead

 

The Scarlet Knights will close out their fall campaign at the Big Green Tournament in Hanover, N.H. from Nov. 3-5.
