BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech dropped a close 4-3 match to West Virginia on Sunday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech started strong in doubles as Semra Aksu and Erika Cheng came out hot and rode that momentum to a 6-2 win. Katie Andreini and Dariya Radulova battled back after being down early to clinch the doubles point for the Hokies with a 6-3 win on Court 1. Charlotte Cartledge and Özlem Uslu were back on Court 3, but play concluded before they could pick up their third win of the season.
Radulova continued her top form in singles, taking a 6-2, 6-4 win on Court 5 over Maja Dodik. On Court 3, Tamara Barad Itzhaki completed a comeback win over Momoko Nagato. Dropping the first set 6-3, Barad Itzhaki found her groove, winning the following two sets 6-4, 6-4.
On Court 4, Aksu took Maya Bordereau to three sets, bouncing back after dropping the first set 6-3, but eventually fell 6-3 in the third set.
On Court 6, Cheng, in her singles debut this season, battled Tatiana Lipatova, dropping a first-set tiebreak before returning to win the second set 6-3. Cheng fell in the final set 6-1.
