Fighting Illini Remain Undefeated at Home with 4-1 Win Over Brown

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.  – Illinois women’s tennis head coach Evan Clark‘s 200th match at the helm of the program marked another victory for the Fighting Illini. Illinois downed Brown 4-1 on Saturday from Atkins Tennis Center to continue the squad’s homestand.

The Fighting Illini climbed to 6-2 on the season and 4-0 at home with Saturday’s victory over Brown. The Bears moved to 4-4 with the loss.

Brown got on the board first, taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Megan Heuser and Alice Xu were the first doubles duo off the court after earning a 6-2 win.

In singles action, the Illini claimed all six first sets of action in addition to all four completed second sets.

Kasia Treiber was the first off the singles courts with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 for her third straight victory. Treiber’s straight-set decision evened the match at 1-1.

Kida Ferrari gave the Orange and Blue the lead after the sophomore earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. Ferrari owns a 4-1 record in dual play this season.

McKenna Schaefbauer earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles moments later for the 3-1 Illinois advantage. The sophomore transfer owns a team-best 6-1 mark in singles action this season.

Less than a minute later, Josie Frazier clinched the match for Illinois. The fifth year defeated her counterpart 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 for her first clinch of the season. She’s now 3-0 when playing at No. 5 this dual campaign.
