Eala Earns Ranked Win As Men’s Tennis Falls To No. 18 Michigan State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s tennis team dropped its match to No. 18 Michigan State, 6-1, on Sunday at the Sarni Tennis Center.

Three seniors, Sam Bossen, Loren Byers, and Miko Eala, were honored post-match for their achievements on Senior Day, presented by Penn State Alumni Association. 

DOUBLES 

At No. 1, Ari Cotoulas and Nolan Ranger partnered up, but fell 6-2 to No. 6 nationally ranked Ozan Baris and Max Sheldon. On court No. 2, Stefan Simeunovic and Jack Martuccio dropped their match, 6-2, to Sebastian Collard and Taym Alazmeh. 

Eala and Alex Sterin were trailing 4-3 against Aristotelis Thanos and Ronald Hohmann on court No. 3, when the match went unfinished.

SINGLES 

Competing at the top spot on court No.1, Eala, ranked No. 102, upset No. 43 Hohmann in an outstanding match, defeating his opponent, 6-3, 6-2. 

At No. 2, Simeunovic played tough, but fell 6-1, 6-3 to Collard. Cotoulas played at No. 3, dropping his match, 6-0, 6-1, against David Saye. On court No. 4, Ranger kept strong, but fell to Sheldon, 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 5 spot, Martuccio kept the score tight, but ultimately dropped his match against Alazmeh, 6-4, 6-3. Sterin took court No. 6, but fell 6-0, 6-2 to Luke Baylis. 

UP NEXT 

The Nittany Lions will play their last matches of the regular season on the road next weekend. The squad will face Wisconsin on Friday, Apr. 19 at 4 p.m. in Madison, Wisc., then close out the weekend on Sunday, Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. against Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.
