CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Members of the University of North Carolina men’s tennis team got off to a good start at the Tom Chewning Invitational on Friday at the Chewning Tennis Center.
Logan Zapp picked up a singles win to start his fall season, topping Elijah Poritzky of Furman in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. Meanwhile, Tar Heels Will Peters, Dennis Perumov and Peter Murphy dropped their initial singles matchups.
In doubles action, Murphy and Zapp beat Oliver Saarinen and Leo Garipey of NC Central 6-3 while falling to Faris Khan and Michael Heller of Duke 6-1.
Peters and Perumov also split their doubles matches, losing to Khan and Heller 6-3 while beating Naresh Bharathy and Neiman Sneed of NCCU 6-3.
Action at the Chewning Invitational will resume on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Chewning Tennis Center. Admission is free.
