RALEIGH, N.C. – Juniors Ellie Coleman and Emma Jackson defeated Kaitlyn Carnicella and DJ Bennett of Auburn, 6-3, in the doubles finals to close out the weekend in the Fall Ranked Spotlight Sunday.
The pair went undefeated in doubles action, after besting Arizona State’s Giulia Morlet and Emilija Tverijonaite, 6-3, in their opening match and Emma Charney and Snow Han of Southern California, 6-2, in the second round.
In singles action, 36th-ranked Jackson opened the morning with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win over 17th-ranked Elza Tomase of Tennessee. The La Grange Park, Ill., native finished the weekend with a 2-3 record in A-1 singles play.
After dropping a tight first set, senior Karolina Berankova battled back against NC State’s Anna Zyryanova to claim the second set, 6-4, but eventually fell 10-6 in the third set. Berankova finished 3-2 in the A-2 singles draw.
Coleman faced the Wolfpack’s Maddy Zampardo in her final singles match, but dropped in a 7-6(0), 6-3 decision. The junior posted a 2-3 ledger in singles competition.
The Blue Devils are back in action Saturday as they compete in the ITA All-American in Cary, N.C.
