TUCSON – Arizona men’s tennis continued action at the Wildcat Invite and USC +1 on Saturday, tallying eight wins between the two tournaments.
At the USC +1, Jay Friend and Nick Lagaev defeated No. 47 Alex Kiefer and Jeffrey von der Schulenberg (UVA), 8-5, to open the day of competition for the Cats.
No. 87 Friend additionally charted a singles victory over No. 37 Ronald Hohmann of Michigan State, 6-2, 6-2, for his second singles win of the weekend.
Inaki Cabrera-Bello took down 59th-ranked Casey Hoole (USC), 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, and 92nd-ranked Lagaev got a top-50 win with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of NC State’s No. 48 Luca Staeheli.
No. 50 Gustaf Strom defeated Matthew Thomson (Wake Forest) 7-5, 6-1 to round out the day’s wins in Columbia.
At the Wildcat Invite, Dominique Rolland and Eric Padgham defeated Leon Roider and Pablo Gomez Galvan (Gonzaga) 6-4 to clinch a spot in the Wilma draw final on Sunday morning.
Casper Christensen and Sasha Rozin got a 6-3 win over Maciej Ziomber and Maikel de Boes of NAU to send them to finals of the consolation Wilbur bracket Sunday.
Rozin’s 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 singles win over de Boes (NAU) earned him a spot in the Red draw final set for Sunday.
