Cats Come Up Short to USC and UCLA


TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona headed to the west coast to take on No.9 USC and No.18 UCLA this weekend. The Wildcats fought hard but did fall to both California school. Their Friday match ended in a 5-2 finish against USC and a 6-1 finish against UCLA.
 
USC earned the doubles point to start off the match on courts two and three. The Cats were quick to tie up the score as No.123 Reece Carter took down No.88 Snow Han on court one in a straight-set 6-3, 6-0.
 
The Wildcats continued to push though singles. Midori Castillo was the last point on the board for Arizona. Castillo went to a three-set victory against Lily Fairclough 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. This completed the match for both teams at a score of 5-2.
 
The next take the Cats moved on to their match against the UCLA Bruins. The Bruins secured the doubles point on courts two and three to get them the head start in the match.
 
Although the Bruins had reached their four-point lead, Brandelyn Fulgenzi stayed strong on court four putting the Cats on the board with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Elise Wagle.
 
The Cats resume play Sunday, March 24 at 11:00 AM MST. They will take on No.55 Oregon in Eugene, Ore.
