The Pac-12 Conference announced its weekly Player of the Week awards and the University of Utah’s Franco Capalbo has earned the honor.
The Buenos Aries native, Capalbo helped Utah to an undefeated weekend at the Ed Collins Classic as the Utes picked up three wins over ranked opponents.
Capalbo posted a 6-0 record on the weekend with three singles wins and three doubles wins. First, he took down David Stevenson from No. 25 Memphis with scores of 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot.
Later he defeated Fnu Nidunjianzan from #51 Princeton in the No. 1 spot with 6-2, 6-2 scores.
Lastly, Capalbo took down Harris Walker from No. 7 Harvard in the No. 1 spot with scores of 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles action he and partner Geronimo Espin Busleiman defeated Harry Rock and Coor Gannon from Memphis with a 6-4 score. Against Princeton, Capalbo and Espin Busleiman defeated Thomas Bosancic and Filippos Astreinidis with a 6-3 score. In the last match of the weekend against Harvard, the Ute duo defeated Ronan Jachuck and Steven Sun with a 6-3 score. All of Capalbo’s doubles victories came in the No. 2 spot.
Utah will start Pac-12 action this week as they hit the road to take on Oregon on March 24 and Washington on March 26.
