WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women’s tennis added another win to the team tally with a 5-2 victory over Xavier.
The Boilermakers dominated singles with all 5 team points coming from singles victories. Sophomore Juana Larranaga beat Xavier’s Emily Flowers 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles after leading throughout the match.
The rest of Purdue’s sophomore corp also brought home decisive wins. At No. 2, sophomore Carmen Gallardo Guevara defeated Kat Lyman of Xavier 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Tara Katarina Milic’s win at No. 4 was the victory that ultimately brought the match home for the Boilermakers. Milic fought through to win 6-3, 6-3 over Xavier’s Anna Roggenburk.
Senior Csilla Fodor took her first set easily at 6-1. The second set did not come as easily. Fodor had to battle back to win 6-3 over Abby Nugent from Xavier and is now only 10 singles wins away from cementing her place in the program’s top-15.
The final point of the day came from freshman Kennedy Gibbs. In the first set, Gibbs fought through to win 7-5 over Xavier’s Abigail Siminski. The freshman was then able to take the second set 6-2.
