Baris Becomes First Spartan To Advance To NCAA Singles Final


WACO, Texas – Michigan State men’s tennis junior Ozan Baris continues to make history during his time at Michigan State, becoming the first Spartan to earn a spot in the NCAA Individual Championships with a win in the semifinals on Saturday.

In a tough battle against DK Suresh of Wake Forest, Baris won his match 7-5, 7-6(5).  The first match started out with Suresh controlling the majority of the first points. Baris pushed his way back to lead and win set one, 7-5. In the second set, it was a hard-fought back-and-forth match between Baris and Suresh. The fight continued into the tie-break point, where Baris had five straight points and overcame a 1-4 deficit. 

Baris will now compete against Michael Zhang from Columbia on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT for a shot at the NCAA singles national title.
