Alvarez Sande’s Run Ends at ITA Sectional Championships


LOS ANGELES (Nov. 9, 2024) – Washington State junior Eva Alvarez Sande saw her run at the 2024 ITA Sectional Championships came to a close in a straight-set loss Saturday morning at Marks Stadium on the USC campus.
 
Alvarez Sande, who reached the quarterfinals Friday before falling, competed in the backdraw for a spot in the 2024 NCAA Championships later this month. Facing USC’s Grace Piper, the Cougar junior battled from down a break in the first set to tie the match at 4-4. Down 5-6, Alvarez Sande was broken again, giving Piper the first set at 7-5.
 
Piper then took control early in the second set en route to closing out a 7-5, 6-2 win.
 
The loss ends the Cougars’ fall season. WSU will begins its spring season Jan. 11 when it hosts UC Davis.
