Ducks Set For Pac-12 Championships

Oregon will open postseason play on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Colorado in the opening round of the Pac-12 Championship in Ojai, Calif. The Ducks come into the tournament as the No. 6 seed for the second straight year and are ranked No. 38 in the ITA computer rankings.

Oregon took the regular season meeting between the two teams, 4-1, in Boulder on April 3 to finish off a sweep of the mountain road trip. UO is 3-4 all-time in the Pac-12 Championship, owning a 3-1 record in first round matches.

DUCKS HAVE DEPTH

Oregon has gotten solid play from a number of players up-and-down its lineup all season, as five Ducks currently have at least 15 singles victories. It’s the first time that an Oregon team has had at least five players with 15-plus singles wins since the 2003-04 season, while none of the five have more than nine losses and each has a winning percentage of at least .625. Freshman Sophie Luescher leads the team in wins at 19-9 on the year, currently 12-7 in dual matches at the No. 1 spot. Fellow freshman Karin Young is 16-2, highlighted by a 15-match winning streak that was snapped this past weekend in Los Angeles. Ares Teixido Garcia is 15-8 on the year while Uxia Martinez Moral is 16-8 and Myah Petchey is 15-9. 

BUILDING A RESUME

Looking to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018, Oregon has made its case with some quality wins throughout the season. The Ducks picked up two victories over top-25 teams during the last month of the season, knocking off then-No. 25 Arizona State, 4-3, on March 20 before sweeping then-No. 20 Washington 4-0 on March 27. Oregon has five wins on the season against teams currently in the ITA top 75, with wins over Wisconsin (No. 44), Utah (No. 54) and Denver (No. 73) to go along with the victories against the Sun Devils (No. 20) and Huskies (No. 32). Additionally, the Ducks have taken care of business at home, finishing the year 9-1 in matches played at the STC, while three of UO’s five wins over top 75 teams have come on the road or at a neutral site.
