Dawgs Punch Ticket To NCAA Tournament, Virginia Bound

SEATTLE – The Washington women’s tennis team (17-10, 5-5 Pac-12) will continue their postseason journey in the NCAA tournament at Virginia this weekend. 
 
For the third season in a row, the Huskies have received a bid to the NCAA tournament and will take on Princeton in the first round. The Huskies will play at host Virginia and if they advance, they will take on the winner of Virginia and LIU (Long Island University).

This marks the fourth straight year Virginia plays host for the first and second rounds of both the NCAA men’s and women’s tennis championships. 

 

UW ended their 2024 Pac-12 tournament run in the quarterfinals after losing to USC 4-0.

 

This will be the fifth trip to the NCAA Championships for the Dawgs under Head Coach Robin Stephenson and the 18^th overall for Washington.

 

Last year in the tournament, the Huskies fell 4-1 in the second round to 13^th-ranked Oklahoma on the Sooners’ home courts. The 21^st-ranked Dawgs defeated Arkansas in the first round thanks to a clinching point from Melissa Sakar at No. 6 singles.

 

Each four-team First & Second Round grouping will send one winner into the Super Regional round (Round of 16) where eight teams will host one more match. Those eight winners will advance to the Elite Eight at the final championship site, which this year will be at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla. The final three rounds take place from May 16-25.
