SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men’s tennis team wrapped up their second match of the weekend this afternoon after facing the Nevada Wolfpack. After securing the doubles point early on, the Utes battled in singles for final score 4-2.
Utah dominated doubles and secured the point early on. Geronimo Espin Busleiman and Bruno Krenn downed the Wolfpack duo 6-1 on court two. Teammates Jayson Blando and Michael Blando took the upper hand in their match on court one, finishing 6-2 and granting Utah the first point of the match. Dylan Applegate and Geremia Rossi were leading 5-3 in their match, but it remained unfinished.
As the match moved to singles the Utes made for an exciting competition. Utah’s second point came on court three as Jayson Blando defeated Nevada’s Edgar Destouet in a 6-2, 6-3 match. Courts four and five fell to Nevada, putting the teams in a 2-2- tie.
The Utes broke the tie as Espin Busleiman downed Matheo Coupu on court one after battling a 7-6(6) first set and breezing through the second set 6-2.
The match point was decided on court six, as Rossi won his first set 6-2 and dropped the second 6-4. Pushing into a third set, Rossi took the upper hand and granted the Utes the win.
UP NEXT
The Utah men will continue the action with another home match against Loyola Marymount. The match will take place on Saturday, Mar. 9 at 12 p.m. MT.
