SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Illinois men’s tennis’ doubles pairs of Mathis Debru/William Mroz and Oliver Okonkwo/Lucas Horve both advanced to the Notre Dame Mini Dual finals.
The duos will play the finals match at a later date in Champaign. However, five matches were played in its place, including Horve and Okonkwo beating Louisville, 7-6, and Mroz and Debru beating Princeton, 6-3.
Redshirt freshman Tyler Bowers also played in South Bend, though he played doubles with Heartland Community College’s Ciaran McCarthy. Because of the mixed doubles, only their singles record will count.
Meanwhile, at the ITA Fall National Championships, Karlis Ozolins, Hunter Heck and Kenta Miyoshi all competed in the consolation rounds after being knocked out of their respective main draws earlier in the week.
Ozolins and Heck went all the way to the consolation finals after beating Pepperdine’s Linus Carlsson Halldin and George Davis, 6-1, 6-2.
Miyoshi also made it to the consolation finals and beat Wake Forest’s Filippo Moroni, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
The two tournaments conclude fall tennis for the Illini, and they will be back in action in January to kick off the regular season.
