NEW YORK — The Rutgers women’s tennis team will compete at ITA Regionals from Oct. 6-8. The three-day tournament will be hosted by Columbia University at the Milstein Family Tennis Center.
The ITA Northeast region is broken up into two sections, with Columbia serving as the host of the Southern section of the region’s competition.
Players will compete in singles and doubles with a chance to advance to the ITA Super Regionals in West Point, New York later in the month. For Rutgers, junior Jackeline Lopez has automatically qualified for the event.
The Scarlet Knights will send six singles players to Columbia, along with three doubles teams. Amira Badawi, Tara Chilton, Mai Nguyen, Yana Gurevich, Minchae Kim, and Arina Valitova will all compete in singles play. The duos of Naomi Karki and Kim, Badawi and Nguyen, and Chilton and Gurevich, will take part in the doubles competition.
Along with RU and host Columbia, Army, Binghamton, Cornell, Drexel, Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Hofstra, Lehigh, Long Island, Marist, NJIT, Penn, Princeton, Seton Hall, St. Francis (PA), St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, Stony Brook, Temple and Wagner will also be competing.
In round of 128 singles play, the Scarlet Knights’ singles matches will include Kim facing off against FDU’s Anastasia Lim, and Valitova taking on Sasha Motlagh of Penn.
Badawi, Chilton, Nguyen, and Gurevich have all earned byes, placing them directly into the round of 64.
In round of 64 doubles play, Kim and Karki will face Lim and Namie Isago of FDU.
The pairs of Badawi and Nguyen, and Chilton and Gurevich, both received byes and will start competition in the round of 32.
Tournament Format
Four rounds of singles play in addition to three rounds of doubles will take place over the weekend.

The winners of Round of 16 singles and QF doubles matches will advance to the ITA Super Regional which is scheduled for October 20-22 in West Point, N.Y.
