Men’s Tennis Finishes Play at ITA All-American Championships


TULSA, Okla. – Penn State men’s tennis concluded competition at the ITA All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Junior Loren Byers defeated Wofford’s Ashe Rae, 6-3, 6-3, in his first Prequalifying round match. Byers struck again to defeat Bozo Barun of Arkansas in a 6-4, 6-2 match. Byers dropped his third Prequalifying match to Vanderbilt’s Juan Lopez de Azcona in a 6-1, 6-1 match. 

Sophomore Stefan Simeunovic fell to Louisiana’s William Riberio, 6-2, 6-3, but bounced back to pick up a win in a Prequalifying consolation match, knocking off Incarnate Word’s Tomas Reche, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4.

Senior Sam Bossem battled a tough first round in Prequalifying, falling 7-6 (1), 6-1 to Texas’s Lucas Brown. Bossem dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision to Louisiana’s Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez in the Prequalifying Consolation round. 

Senior Miko Eala began play in the Qualifying round of the tournament, falling 6-1, 6-3 to Washington’s Dzianis Zharyn. Eala played again in the Qualifying Consolation round, but dropped a 6-3, 6-1 result against Arizona’s Gustaf Storm.

The Nittany Lions are next in action at ITA Regionals, hosted by Liberty, beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Qualifying Round

Zharyn, Dzianis (UW) def. Eala, Miko (PSU), 6-1, 6-3.

Qualifying Consolation
