Chrysostom, Fishback earn VaSID All-State honors

BLACKSBURG – Junior Ryan Fishback and redshirt-junior Jordan Chrysostom were selected to the 2022-23 VaSID (Virginia Sports Information Directors) Men’s Tennis University Division All-State team, as announced by the organization Thursday afternoon.

Fishback earned second team honors in singles and and second team honors in doubles with teammate Chrysostom.

The Geveva, N.Y., native continues to add to an impressive list of postseason accolades following a junior campaign in which he was named All-ACC Second Team. Fishback earned many accolades for his excellence off the court as well earning the progam’s first ever National ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership Award and was named a first team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators.

Fishback compiled an 12-14 record this spring that included six ranked wins highlighted by a win against No. 12 Garrett Johns of Duke. The Court 1 standout finished the season as the No. 49 singles player in the nation and recorded four ACC victories along with a first round victory in the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Singles Championship against No. 5 Johannus Monday of Tennessee.

Additionally, Fishback has been named second-team all-state in doubles with Chrysostom. The duo went 9-8 this spring with four wins in ACC play. Fishback and Chrysostom recorded three wins within the top-50 including a victory against No. 15 Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli of NC State. The Hokies top pairing reached as high as No. 4 in the ITA poll and finished as the No. 24 duo in the nation.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in Virginia.
