The 48th-ranked Bublik banged 14 aces and saved the lone break point he faced.
Bublik beat Olympic gold-medal champion Zverev for the third time in four meetings.
Rublev nearly doubled Roberto Bautista Agut’s winner total (29 to 14) sweeping the Spaniard 6-3, 6-4. Rublev avenged buddy Daniil Medvedev, who lost to Bautista Agut yesterday.
The seventh-ranked Rublev has won all three prior meetings vs. Bublik though the pair have not squared off in more than three years.
