Crawley and Tanguilig Receive US Open Main Draw Wild Cards

ORLANDO, Fla. — On Tuesday, the United States Tennis Association announced that Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig will receive main draw wild cards at the 2023 US Open after winning the 2023 NCAA doubles championship.

This marks the second time in three years that a Tar Heel doubles duo will compete in the US Open. 2021 NCAA Doubles champions Makenna Jones and Elizabeth Scotty were the last UNC doubles tandem to play in the grand slam event.

Crawley and Tanguilig defeated UNC teammates Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty in the All-UNC women’s doubles final, 6-1, 2-6, (11-9). The pair compiled a 12-4 record over the course of the outdoor season before going 4-0 in the NCAA doubles championship in Orlando.

“These wild cards reflect the USTA’s continued commitment to supporting a pathway into pro tennis for our top-performing American collegians at the NCAA Division I level,” said USTA Player and Coach Development GM Martin Blackman.

Qualifying matches for the US Open begin on August 22nd. The main draw begins on August 28th with the doubles final taking place on September 10th.
