Wolverines Quartet Earns CSC Academic All-District Honors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Kari Miller, Gala Mesochoritou, Merri Kelly and Julia Fliegner of the No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women’s tennis team were each named to the 2022-23 Academic All-District Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday afternoon (May 9). To receive the honor, student-athletes must have completed at least one year of classes and have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.
Miller is pursuing a bachelor’s of business administration from the Ross School of Business and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors last season. She is ranked No. 36 in singles and partners with Jaedan Brown to form the No. 3-ranked doubles team. Miller was named All-Big Ten for the third straight season, featuring a 17-12 overall singles record. Miller earned berths to both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, set for later this month.
Fliegner, like Miller, is earning her BBA from the Ross School of Business. A staple at No. 3 singles for the Wolverines this season, she has a 16-2 record in singles and a 17-5 record in doubles during dual-match action. She earned All-Big Ten honors and earned a berth to the NCAA Singles Championship for the first time in her career. Ranked No. 51 in singles, Fliegner also was named to the all-tournament team at the Big Ten Tournament and the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Mesochoritou is a psychology major in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts. She comes in at No. 113 in the latest singles rankings and most recently clinched Michigan’s 4-1 win over Notre Dame (May 6) to advance to this weekend’s super regional. She holds a 10-5 mark in dual-match play and a 19-7 overall singles mark. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors last year as a sophomore.
Kelly is pursuing her degree in communication and media in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts. She is 3-1 at No. 6 singles with a 12-5 overall singles record, picking up her first NCAA Tournament win with a straight-set win on Friday (May 5) against Youngstown State. She has been an integral part of Michigan’s doubles lineup, going 5-4 at No. 3 with Andrea Cerdan and 6-1 at No. 3 with Miller. Kelly and Miller went 3-0 at the…
