WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Including the team’s third ACC victory of the season, the No. 14 ranked Wake Forest men’s tennis team (17-6, 3-1 ACC) swept Sunday’s action by defeating No. 60 Miami 4-1 and Coastal Carolina 4-0 at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons began the doubleheader with a 4-1 victory over No. 60 Miami. After the Hurricanes secured the doubles point, five Demon Deacons won their first set in singles action before No. 21 Melios Efstathiou (6-4, 6-3 vs. No. 44 Dan Martin), No. 122 Filippo Moroni (6-4, 7-5 vs. Antonio Prat), Luciano Tacchi (6-4, 6-2 vs. Leonard Bierbaum) and Juan Lopez de Azcona (6-3, 6-3 vs. Nacho Serra Sanchez) secured victories.
In the afternoon showdown with the Chanticleers, Wake Forest picked up a highly competitive doubles point thanks to the No. 30 pairing of Moroni and Lopez de Azcona at 7-6 (7-5) before securing the 4-0 victory to close out the weekend. Lopez de Azcona led the way for the Deacs with a 6-0, 6-3 decision in fifth singles.
Wake Forest will travel to the Lone Star State next weekend, facing current No. 43 Baylor on Sunday at 2 p.m. EST.
