Lukas Greif Named SEC Player of the Week

Greif clinched both doubles points and both match wins for Florida during ITA Kickoff Weekend.

BIRMINGHAM, Fla. – By clinching both doubles points and both match wins for Florida during ITA Kickoff Weekend, Lukas Greif was awarded the Southeastern Conference men’s tennis Player of the Week.

This is Greif’s second career SEC Player of the Week honor after receiving the nod by the league on Feb. 19, 2020. It’s Florida’s first SEC Player of the Week recipient since March 16, 2022 when Ben Shelton was recognized.

The senior was instrumental to the Gators qualifying for a spot at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the Florida Regional. In Florida’s matches over USF and SEC-foe Mississippi State, Greif clinched both doubles points with partner Jonah Braswell, as well as both match wins with his singles victories in straight sets.

To help punch Florida’s ticket to Chicago in the championship match versus Mississippi State, Greif produced the winning point on a powerful backhand to convert a break point at 5-5 and Greif served out the set to secure a 7-5 victory over Petar Jovanovic/Gregor Ramskogler.

While Mississippi State threatened Florida’s 3-2 lead with an ongoing tight match on court four, Greif showcased his veteran experience and leadership by securing his match at court five against Benito Sanchez Martinez in dominant straight set fashion, 6-4, 7-6 (1), and completely controlled the second set tiebreak.

The win over Mississippi State helped Bryan Shelton achieve 200 wins as Florida’s head coach. Greif is riding a three-match doubles and singles winning streak heading into College Matchday against No. 12 Florida State Thursday at 5 p.m.
