Boilermakers to Close Out Fall Events in Florida

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After having a few weeks with no fall events, the Purdue women’s tennis team will close out the fall at the FGCU Bonita Bay Collegiate Open this weekend.

The open will start for the Boilermakers when they face the host Florida Gulf Coast on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning, Purdue will take on Memphis and then close the weekend on Sunday morning against Notre Dame.

After the open, the Boilermakers will not play again until the start of the spring season when they will face Memphis again as the season opener.

Last time out, the Boilermakers traveled to the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship. Sophomores Carmen Gallardo Guevara and Tara Katarina Milic fought their way into the quarterfinals in doubles. The duo was eliminated from the main draw by the No. 47 doubles team of Eleonora Molinaro and Daria Kuczer out of Tennessee

In singles, Gallardo stayed alive the longest in the main draw. It took another ranked opponent to eliminate her when she lost to No. 96 Elza Tomase of Tennessee.

In extra matches, redshirt senior Liz Norman brought home two victories from the regional. Freshman Kennedy Gibbs and Milic both brought home a win as well.
