PISCATWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s tennis head coach Hilary Ritchie announced the signing of graduate transfer Yana Gurevich Thursday morning. The Los Gatos, California native will join the team after playing four years at UC Davis.
“We are excited to add Yana to our roster,” Ritchie said. “She brings a lot of competitive experience playing high in the lineup at UC Davis. Her style of play is unique in collegiate tennis. She is a very driven student and athlete. Yana will be a tremendous addition to our squad.”
Gurevich has earned several singles wins so far this fall, including victories over multiple individually ranked ITA opponents.
Last season, Gurevich earned All-Big West Second Team Singles honors after posting a 14-5 singles record, including a 6-3 mark in conference play in the 2022 spring. She played primarily at the No. 2 position, boasted an eight-straight match winning streak in February that culminated in Big West Player of the Week accolades (Feb. 16). Seven of the eight wins over the span came in straight sets.
Gurevich also compiled a 13-6 doubles record, including a 9-3 mark on the No. 2 court.
“I chose Rutgers because it encompasses the giant package deal I was looking for,” Gurevich said. “Rutgers has stellar academics which allows me to pursue a Masters in nutrition, complete my dietetic internship and offers the opportunity to work for a large-scale sports nutrition department. Rutgers also offers the incredible chance to compete in one of the biggest stages in the country – the Big Ten. Now I can see how I fare against some of the best tennis players in the country. I am so proud of myself for working tirelessly towards this goal and incredibly grateful for my friends and family for supporting me through the ups and downs that it took to enter this next step in my career.”
