Guevara, Doubles Stay Alive in ITA Regional


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Purdue women’s tennis has completed the first day of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship with a successful show in doubles. 

Both doubles teams won their first match in the main draw to continue on in the tournament. Sophomores Carmen Gallardo Guevara and Tara Katarina Milic won their match 8-6 over Ellie Myers and Makayla Mills of Kentucky. Freshman Kennedy Gibbs and redshirt senior Liz Norman battled their way through their match to win 8-7 and a 7-5 tie break over Sara Zalukar and Emilia Valentinsson from Miami (OH). 

In singles, Guevara battled through a tough match to earn a win over Maialen Morante from Kentucky and continue on in the main draw. After losing a tie break in the first set 7-5, she came through in the second and third sets to win 6-3 and 6-2. She will face Imani Graham of Xavier in the next round.

Gibbs, Milic and Norman will play more matches in the singles consolation draw.

Kennedy Gibbs/Liz Norman (PUR) def. Sara Zalkar/Emilia Valentinsson (MIAMI OH) – 8-7 (7-5)

Mariia Hlahola (BEL) def. Kennedy Gibbs (PUR) – 6-4, 6-3

Bridget Stammel (VAN) def. Liz Norman (PUR) – 6-2, 7-6 (7-3)

Emily Meyer (MEM) def. Tara Katarina Milic (PUR) – 7-6 (7-4), 6-4

Carmen Gallardo Guevara (PUR) def. Maialen Morante (UK) – 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 6-2
