Men’s Tennis Continues Action at ITA Atlantic Regional

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Penn State men’s tennis team continued play at the ITA Atlantic Regionals at the University of Virginia’s Virginia Tennis Facility Thursday afternoon. Six Nittany Lions saw action on day two.  

SINGLES 

Andrei Paduraru took the court first against Howard’s Marcel Dawson in the Bronze Backdraw. He lost the match 6-3, 6-3.  

Four Nittany Lions played their first tennis of the tournament on Thursday afternoon. Charl Morgan bested John Walsh of Richmond in a 6-2, 7-6(1) battle. Following after, Sam Bossem handily took down Frank Thompson from Virginia Tech, 6-1, 7-6(1).  

Penn State’s Malik Bhatnagar was defeated by VCU’s Sam Baumgartner 6-4, 6-4, before Ismail Saadi fell to Deji-Thomas Smith from Liberty in a three-set match 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Both Nittany Lions will play a match in the Silver Backdraw on Friday, Oct. 21. 

DOUBLES 

In doubles, partners Nemani and Paduraru played George Mason’s Dustin Ha and Hayden Postin in a consolation match. The Penn State duo fell 8-6.  

NEXT UP 

Morgan and Bossem continue on in the ITA Atlantic Regionals Silver Main Draw Singles. Morgan will face Alejandro Vedri-Castellano Asensi from Saint Joseph, while Bossem takes on William & Mary’s Alexander Karman in the round of 32. Also, Harrison Janes and Ismail Saadi will partner up to play in the Silver Main Draw Doubles bracket tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 21.

• Rounds of 32 and 16 Silver Main Draw Singles.  One round of Consolation for 1st match losers of Silver Draw (played indoors) 

• Rounds 16 and 8 of Silver Doubles and one round of Doubles Consolation for 1st match losers of Silver Doubles. 

Saturday October 22nd: 

• Round of 32 Gold Singles 

• Rounds of 32 and 16 Gold Doubles and one round of doubles Consolation for 1st match losers of Gold Doubles.
