WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Duke women’s tennis team opened action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Fall Regionals on Thursday by posting a 5-0 ledger in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Duke junior Karolina Berankova collected a 2-0 record in singles as she knocked off Georgia Fischer of Wofford, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the morning. She then collected a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Virginia Poggi of Appalachian State in the afternoon to move on in qualifying. Berankova, who hails from Prague, Czech Republic, will next face Sara Snyder of Furman in the round of 16.
All three of the Blue Devil doubles teams moved on Thursday. Berankova and Ellie Coleman notched an 8-2 win over Eda Arli and Zoe Huffman of UNC Wilmington. Brianna Shvets and Emma Jackson advanced by default over Franny Shea and Emma Heiderscheit of Davidson. The Duke duo of Cameron Morra and Chloe Beck improved to 8-1 on the year with an 8-3 victory over Coastal Carolina’s Tatum Burger and Anna Bagayan.
