Newport Beach, Calif. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team travels to California this week to compete at the Newport Beach Invite, Oct. 10 – Oct. 16.
The Newport Beach Invite will be the Huskers’ third and final fall appearance. The Huskers last competed at the Hilton Head Invite hosted by the Van der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club on Sept. 26. Juniors Isabel Adrover Gallego and Vivien Sandberg and sophomores Anfisa Danilchenko and Lucy Loy all competed and were eliminated in the opening round. Sophomore Ana Carmen Zamburek made the trip but did not compete. Sandberg started play for NU as she faced Charleston Southerns’s Marina Skegro and fell 6-3, 6-1. Loy played Charleston Southern’s Luiza Fullana and lost 6-2, 6-1. Adrover Gallego matched up with Elizabeth Danailova and was defeated 6-3, 6-4. To finish play at Hilton Head, Danilchenko faced Tenika Mcgiffin and fell 6-2, 2-6, (4-10).
This week, Adrover Gallego, Samantha Alicea, Danilchenko, Loy, Sandberg and Carmen Zamburek will be traveling to Newport Beach. Round robin draws will take place on Monday through Friday, and single elimination draws will start on Saturday.
