Penn State Secures 4-3 Win On The Road Over Iowa

Iowa City, Iowa—Penn State women’s tennis (7-8) comes out victorious over Iowa (4-8), 4-3 in a close match on the road on Sunday afternoon. 

“I’m thrilled we won today. My teammates and I found a way to come back after a tough loss to Nebraska,” said freshman Yvonne Zuffova. “Everyone put in their best effort today and it paid off. We are ready to take on Michigan State and Michigan!” 

Doubles  

The Nittany Lions earned the doubles point to secure an early 1-0 lead with wins on courts one and two. 

Duo, Karly Friedland and Sofiya Chekhlystova defeated Samantha Mannix and Vipasha Mehra 6-1 on court one. The doubles point was decided with a Nittany Lion win on court two by Olivia Ryan and Yvonne Zuffova over Marisa Schmidt and Samantha Gillas, 7-5. 

Gabby O’Gorman and Alexandra Nielsen fell 4-6 on court three to Barbora Pokorna and Michelle Bacalla. 


 

Singles 

Penn State continued to their strong efforts over the Hawkeyes earning wins on courts one, two and three.  

Sofiya Chekhlystova sought victory over Marisa Schmidt in a two-set match, 6-1, 6-3. Court two and three carried the same fate with wins from Zuffova, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 over Samantha Mannix and O’Gorman, 6-2, 6-2 Michelle Bacalla.
