CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia’s doubles duo of Melodie Collard and Elanie Chervinsky needed all three sets but was victorious in the quarterfinals on Friday, November 22, to advance to the semifinals of the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Individual Doubles Championship at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
The semifinals of the doubles championship are slated for Saturday, November 23, and the championship match is set for Sunday, November 24.
This is the first year of a two-year plan for the singles and doubles championships to be conducted in the fall, with the team championships continuing to be held in the spring.
In the quarterfinals of doubles play on Friday, Collard and Chervinsky were the lone ACC team to reach the semifinals, with the three other pairs falling in their matches.
The Cavaliers’ tandem faced off with the team of Carson Tanguilig and Susanna Maltby of North Carolina. The two teams traded 6-0 set wins to send the match to a third and decisive set. There, Collard and Chervinsky held on for the 10-7 set win and a 6-0, 0-6, 10-7 victory. In the semifinals on Saturday, Virginia’s duo will take on the team of Rachel Gailis and Alicia Dudeney of Florida, who defeated Duke’s Irina Balus and Elizabeth Coleman 6-4, 6-1.
The ACC’s fourth doubles team of Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo of NC State suffered a 6-2, 7-6 (5) loss to UCLA’s doubles team of Olivia Center and Kate Fakih.
In singles play, the ACC’s two quarterfinalists in Elaine Chervinsky of Virginia and No. 5 seed Valerie Glozman of Stanford both fell on Friday.
Chervinsky took DJ Bennett of Auburn to three sets before ultimately falling 7-5, 5-7, 6-0, while Glozman lost in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to Julia Garcia Ruiz of Oklahoma.
The ACC women’s tennis players earned 15 ITA All-American honors in either singles or doubles at the 2024 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. The complete list of All-American student-athletes will be announced at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season when all criteria have been exhausted.
