Alabama Has Perfect Showing on ITA Scholar-Athlete Team


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The Alabama men’s tennis team placed all eight athletes on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete Team, the organization announced Monday.

Patrick Kaukovalta capped his collegiate career with his fifth ITA Scholar-Athlete honor as he was recognized every season of his college career. Rudi Christiansen made his second appearance on the scholar-athlete team, while Enzo Aguiard, Zach Foster, Juan Martin, Filip Planinsek and German Samofalov earned the honor for the first time. Joao Ferreira made his first appearance on the division I list after earning the honor at Lynn twice. 

As a team, the Crimson Tide led all Alabama men’s programs this spring with a 3.72 cumulative grade point average. The program was named to the ITA All-Academic Team for the 10th consecutive year with this year’s nod.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: Be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
