#7 Women’s Tennis Hitting the Highway to #1 UNC


RALEIGH – Seventh-ranked NC State women’s tennis (17-2, 8-1 ACC) is visiting No. 1 UNC (24-0, 10-0 ACC) tomorrow, April 6 to clash with the local in-state foe. The match is set to start at 5 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. 

A win over the Tarheels would be the first time for the Wolfpack since 1998 when they were defeated 6-3 in Raleigh.

Last Time Out:

This past weekend, NC State hosted Syracuse and East Carolina with a doubleheader on Friday and Boston College for a Sunday matinee. The Pack walked away with a 3-0 record that included two clean sweeps over opponents (East Carolina and Boston College). 

In singles play, Alana Smith earned ranked victories over Syracuse’s No. 95 Zeynap Erman and Boston College’s No. 71 Marice Aguiar.

Rankings Update:

For the second week in a row, NC State has occupied the No. 7 spot in the country.

The ITA released updated singles and doubles rankings on April 4th which featured four Wolfpack members in singles and two pairs in doubles. Alana Smith tallied at No. 13 in singles, continuing to hold the highest singles rank out of her teammates. She is followed by Diana Shnaider at No. 18, Amelia Rajecki at No. 28, and Abigail Rencheli at No. 65. In doubles, Shnaider and Smith remained in the top-10 at No. 10 while Miller and Rajecki follow directly behind at No. 11.

Coming Up Next:

Following Thursday’s contest, NC State will travel to No. 6 Duke on Saturday, April 8th for an 11 a.m. start.
