#10 Wolfpack Heads to Miami to Face #20 California


RALEIGH – Tenth-ranked Women’s Tennis (4-1) is heading to Miami, Fla., this weekend to take on No. 20 California (2-1) in its third consecutive top-25 matchup. Match time for the neutral site meeting with the Bears is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12.

Last Time Out: 

Last weekend, the group took down No. 15 Oklahoma and No. 22 Tennessee at home, each with a 6-1 final team score. In her debut in the red-and-white, Diana Shnaider picked up two singles wins and a doubles win to earn ACC Freshman of the Week. Graduate student Alana Smith tallied her 100th and 101st doubles career wins over the weekend when she paired up with Shnaider. In addition head coach Simon Earnshaw sealed his 900th career win on Saturday, Feb. 4 with a 6-1 win over Oklahoma. The 6-1 win over Tennessee the next day added to his tally to make it the 901st career win.

Rankings Update: 

The ITA released updated rankings for doubles and singles on Feb. 8 which continued to feature numerous squad members. Miller and Rajecki moved up to No. 5 in doubles after previously being at No. 8. In singles, four individual players found themselves in the rankings yet again with two of them being inside the top 25. Smith (No. 15), Amelia Rajecki (No. 19), Abigail Rencheli (No. 35), and Sophie Abrams (No. 64) continue to showcase the valuable experience that they bring to the program. 

Coming Up Next:

Following this weekend’s action, the Wolfpack will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to square off against Wake Forest for its ACC opener on Friday, Feb. 17th at 4 p.m.
