CARY, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team opened their individual season with a successful run at the 2024 ITA Women’s All-American Championships. In the prequalifiers, Akari Matsuno advanced to the round of 32 where she fell in a competitive three set battle, 4-6, 7-6(5), 2-6, and Nibi Ghosh advanced to the second round after a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win over her Kansas opponent.
In doubles, the 82-ranked team of Ghosh and Matsuno ultimately fell in the opening round in a close match against a pair from the University of Texas, 2-6, 6-3, 8-10. They then competed in the consolation bracket where they dropped a pair of sets to the team from Baylor.
The qualifying round saw No. 112 Bojana Pozder defeat Nikola Homolkova of Hawai’i in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, before falling in the second round to Chloe Noel despite a close two sets, 4-6, 6-7(2).
In the doubles qualifier, Pozder partnered with Carrie Beckman where the duo rolled to a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory over a pair from UNC before the 45th-ranked doubles team fell to Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo of NC State in round two.
