Women’s Tennis Signs Transfer Amira Badawi

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers head women’s tennis coach Hilary Ritchie has announced the signing of transfer Amira Badawi from New Jersey Institute of Technology, who arrives “On the Banks” as a junior with three years of collegiate eligibility beginning with the 2022-23 season.

Badawi, a native of Cairo, Egypt, compiled a 30-7 record with NJIT over two seasons, including an impressive 22-5 mark playing in the top three singles spots for the Highlanders in 2021-22, a season that ended with a second place showing in the Southland Conference Tournament.

“I have seen Amira play several times and have always been impressed by her tenacity and consistency on the court,” Ritchie said. “She has a passion for tennis, and I know she is only going to improve at Rutgers playing in the Big Ten Conference.”

Badawi reached a career-best mark of No. 214 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Rankings. After dropping her first dual match singles contest in 2022, she rattled off 13 consecutive singles victories from Jan. 28 to April 8. Badawi was 2-0 in singles play playing in the No. 2 position at the Southland Tournament and was up a set in an unfinished match in the conference championship.
